Sunday 5 April is probably marked with a big red circle around the date in many cycling fans’ calendars, both in and outside of Belgium. The Tour of Flanders offers a course tailor-made for ‘Flandriennes’ for the women’s peloton, with start and finish in Oudenaarde.
The Elite Women start their 159-kilometre long Tour of Flanders at 10.55am in Oudenaarde. They face ten hills and four cobbled sectors along the way. In Zottegem the peloton will hit the first cobbles, just like the men do, and then the women’s peloton goes to the Muur van Geraardsbergen via Tenbosse. The Taaienberg, added in 2019, will also feauture in this year’s race and is the gateway to the same final as the men’s race. Via Kruisberg/Hotond the women race towards the decisive climbs Oude Kwaremont and Paterberg. From the last climb it’s another 13 kilometres to Oudenaarde before we know who will succeed Marta Bastianelli.
