Save the date: the 2019 Flanders Classics season!

4 October 2018

We're starting off with thé opener of the new cycling season. Although the riders have got some km's in their legs already, with races in Australia, Portugal or Argentina, many still consider Omloop Het Nieuwsblad as the first real test of the new season, a race where all top riders are present. Omloop Het Nieuwsblad has been moved backwards one week, so not taking place in the final weekend of February, but in the first weekend of March. On Saturday March 2nd both Elite Women and Elite Men will race between Ghent and Ninove.

Four weeks later it's Ghent-Wevelgem's turn. Wind in 'the Moeren', plugging on the Plugstreets and suffering on 'Kemmelberg'. Ghent-Wevelgem is guaranteed to be a spectacle without a doubt. Fans who want to book a trip to 'Flanders Fields', should do so in the weekend of March 29th to 31st. On Sunday March 31st not only Elite Women and Elite Men are being held, also five youth categories battle it out for eternal glory.

Three days later it's Dwars Door Vlaanderen's turn. On the renewed course from last year, many big names were present for the ride between Roeselare and Waregem and it won't be any different this season as the big names will want to test their form in the final straight line towards the Tour of Flanders. Wednesday April 3rd is the date you don't want to miss, that's when both Elite Women and Elite Men are deciding who'll become the succesor of Ellen Van Dijk and Yves Lampaert.

The high mass of cycling, the highlight of the spring season and one of the five Monuments in cycling: the Ronde van Vlaanderen. Every rider dreams of adding this one to their list, every cycling fan wants to be there when it goes down. From far away hundreds of thousands of spectators come to Flanders to watch "Flanders Finest" live. The day on which life in Belgium comes to a standstill and where everyone in the world will be watching to see who becomes the succesor of Niki Terpstra and Anna van der Breggen? Sunday April 7th.

The classic riders having had their turn during the Ronde, it's time for the quicker guys in the peloton, three days after the Ronde. In the unofficial "World Championship" for sprinters we're leaving from the Dutch city of Terneuzen for the second time. After a battle against the wind in the province of Zeeland, the winner will be decided on the three local rounds in the Belgian town of Schoten. The date? April 10th 2019

The final of the Flanders Classics spring races is for the riders the traditional passage between the cobbled classics and the Ardennes classics: Brabantse Pijl. On Wednesday April 17th a battle for victory will take place between the city of Leuven and the hilly landscape of Overijse. In Gooik, on the other end of Brussels, the women's race takes place. On a local track we're looking for the succesor of the Italian Marta Bastianelli, who won the first edition of Brabantse Pijl for Elite Women last year.
