The UCI has announced its new race calendar for this autumn today. Three Flanders Classics WorldTour races in the week of 11 until 18 October. Despite this positive announcement, the new dates remain subject to the corona measures, determined by Belgium’s federal government.
Gent-Wevelgem in Flanders Fields will has its new date on Sunday 11 October, the day after the Amstel Gold Race. The Tour of Flanders is scheduled one week after, on Sunday 18 October, while Dwars door Vlaanderen is supposed to be held in between Gent-Wevelgem and De Ronde on 14 October. Subsequently Flanders Classics knows the new dates for all its WorldTour races and this for both elite men and women.
"The many consultations between all parties involved in cycling of the past months have paid off", says Tomas Van Den Spiegel, CEO of Flanders Classics. "Today the UCI provided clarity and that's a positive. This calendar gives us a new goal to work towards. It's good to be able to get back to work, but at the same time we are aware of the current situation. Therefore, these dates are not a certainty, but still provisional. We will continue to monitor the situation and the final decision will of course depend on the measures that will be in place in our country at that time".
