Cycling season in Flanders is near and so Flanders Classics will once again have some novelties for the cycling fans. After the renovation of the team presentation in the Ronde and Omloop last year, in 2018 we go for a more intense fan experience at the finish line and podium ceremony afterwards. Also for the people at home, so big changes will be noticable on their tv-screens: new opening titles, matching Flanders Classics infographics and more personal data of the riders during the race.
Bigger fan experience in renewed podium ceremony
Flanders Classics does not only bet big on women's cycling in 2018, also the podium ceremony for the top 3 riders will be completely different from this year on. After changing the team presentation of the Ronde and Omloop last year, this year we will renew the ceremonial part after the finish, together with Flemish public broadcaster VRT. From February 24th on the honouring of the top 3 will be refreshingly new and more modern, a moment where laureates of the men's and women's race will be placed even more in the spotlights. For all Flanders Classics races the ceremony of the women will be held right before the men's. The handing over of the flowers and kissing by the podium girls will dissapear. Maja Leye will become 'Master of Ceremony'.
Cooperation between VRT and Flanders Classics: 'For the Ronde'
A next change for cycling fans is the new implantation of the Ronde stage in the fan zone in Oudenaarde. The stage and ceremony will move from the Minderbroederstraat to the "festival area". Studio Brussels hostsStijn Vlaeminck and Linde Merckpoel will start the party in the fan zone at 1 pm. Stijn Vlaeminck will also host the podium ceremony after the finish when we will know the succesors of Philippe Gilbert and Coryn Rivera.
Introduction of Flanders Classics-hymn, new intro titles and graphics
For those who will follow the six Flanders Classics races at home, there are some changes as well. A close partnership between Flanders Classics and VRT has resolved into a brand new look and feel. TV-viewers will see Flanders Classics branded intro titles with a new Flanders Classics hymn, a song that is specially composed for our classics.
To end with, Flanders Classics and VRT will present you professional and accessible graphics and data during the live broadcasting. Viewers will be informed during the race with wattages, heart rates of the riders and time differences. This is a result of a collaboration with Velon CC. These technical innovations have the purpose of lifting cycling and the experience of watching to a higher level: cycling of the future. Cycling fans will be able to experience cycling more intense than ever before.
